Job Description

M&S Engineering is a multi-office, power engineering firm serving the electric utility market that is seeking to add a highly motivated individual to drive revenue growth. The person will join an existing, highly effective business development team to capture new clients and serve existing clients, with emphasis on electrical distribution, transmission, and substation design services. This position is responsible for lead generation, client outreach, contract negotiation and administration, client capture, and retention. Additionally, this person will collaborate with other team members to generate new marketing initiatives, attend conferences and trade events, and coordinate with other members of the business development team with growing revenue and margin to meet the firm’s financial goals. The ideal candidate would be dynamic and proactive with experience in selling engineering design and related professional services within the electric utility market.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities include business development, marketing, and client relationship management in the electric utility industry across the United States
  • Represent the firm’s interests in multiple markets including:
    • Investor-Owned Utilities (IOU’s), and top 100 Electrical Cooperatives, & Municipal Electric Utilities
    • Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) firms which build transmission, substation and distribution systems
    • Renewable Energy Developers which build transmission, substation and distribution systems
    • Petrochemical, oil and gas which build transmission, substation and distribution systems
  • Activities will require self-started, self-directed, and outward-bound communications to existing and prospective clients
  • Additional activities such as presentations (creating and delivering), proposal development, technical writing, conflict resolution, accounts receivable support, contract negotiation, recruitment of staff, and new market development will also be required through the course of employment
  • Assist with management of clients’ relationships on behalf of the firm
  • Provide feedback loop as part of the quality control and communications for client management
  • Provide advice and guidance for corrective action within the operations team, when necessary
  • Coordinate information and communicate among all M&S team members and departments
  • Lead and prepare responses to formal RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs across all departments
  • Track all leads, proposals, and submittals within CRM (Vision)
  • Make presentations to existing and prospective clients

Requirements

  • Highly respected and have a positive reputation in electric utility industry
  • Ability to find and win new work for the company
  • Technical aptitude
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Expert salesmanship and professionalism
  • Ability to work within a dynamic work team
  • This position requires up to 60% travel, plus, involvement and participation in industry trade associations, trade shows, conferences, and other industry related events throughout the U.S.
  • Ability to visit all branch locations, as needed, including company headquarters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Business, Engineering, or related field is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, electric utility industry required
  • Demonstrated business development and sales experience
  • Experience with professional services is preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in growing revenue
  • Willingness to travel where opportunities for growth are located
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects with attention to detail, accuracy, and high-quality standards
